November Awareness month - written by Peter Bowen-Walker, Clinical Negligence Solicitor

Autumn is my favourite time of year. The wonderful colours and the cooler temperatures suit me well. It is also a time of a lot of social activity including Halloween, Bonfire Night and is the run-up to Christmas. If that isn’t enough, here are a few additional events taking place in November. Even if you don’t want to get involved directly, there may be some useful information available from these organisations and charities.

Enjoy the fireworks and stay safe!

November 1 – Purple Tuesday 2022

https://purpletuesday.co/

Purple Tuesday is a social movement for improving the customer experience for disabled people and their families. Access to facilities for people with disabilities is improving but remains a real problem even in the UK. According to the website of this organisation

The spending power of disabled people worldwide is estimated at $13 trillion, increasing by 14% per annum and There are 1.8 billion disabled people in the world, representing 17% of the population.

In terms of simple decency, access to facilities and services for disabled people should improve. But if this doesn’t persuade those who hold the purse strings the economic facts should assist!

November – Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and Lung Cancer Awareness Month 2022

As clinical negligence lawyers we see missed and delayed diagnoses of cancers all too often. Awareness days like this not only provide an opportunity to fundraise for the charities but also to raise awareness of the symptoms which could be life-saving. Being aware of what to look out for and being able to hold an informed and early discussion with your GP about suspected symptoms could make all the difference to the diagnosis and the outcome.
